The Plan

Okay. So I got an idea on Saturday as I lay in the grass along Brookside sweaty and out of breath. I had just walked about a mile and a half up and down Peoria as the kids took part in the annual Boo-Ha-Ha celebration and I saw an older gentleman proudly wearing a Tulsa Run t-shirt picked up at the race he undoubtedly participated in earlier that morning. I knew instantly what had to be done. My ass needed to be in that race.

I have 3 small children and all the physical, mental, and emotional challenges/rewards that come with that. In less than 6 months I'll be turning 30 and in all honesty, without a major change I'll be dead long before another 30 passes by. I'm well over 300 pounds and the hight of my physical activity is a toss-up between putting my shoes on and walking from the car to my workplace.

As you can see, running in a 15k race a year from now seems laughable, probably impossible. I don't even know if it is a realistic goal, but I've got to give it a shot. So here I am, tracking my progress for all the world or at least for 12 of my closest friends and wackos who like to see pics of a chubby white dude with his shirt off. I've also asked my buddy Erin to help me document it on video so stay tuned for updates on that front as well

I don't have a diet plan, I don't have an exercise plan, and I sure as hell don't have a running plan, but I do have a plan for survival. At this point it's all I need.

good luck with this, man. i turn 30 this christmas, and i'm seriously considering it as a time to do a life-overhaul. stop smoking, exercise again, save some money... all that jazz. you're an inspiration to me, tj clark!

p.s. i know this may be counter-productive, but before you get belly-deep in your weight-loss initiative, we should grab lunch. and eat it.
